The heart contains four valves for blood circulation. Sometimes, the heart valves do not work as desired. One such condition is aortic valve stenosis. It is when one of the valves located right next to the heart does not open wide enough. Usually, the valve opens to let blood from the heart into the aorta, which takes the blood to most of the body.
Heart failure means the heart just doesn't pump as well as it should. Hence, it can’t get blood moving fast enough around the body. One way to assess how well this thing is going is called ejection fraction (EF).
TAVR is a procedure for treating aortic stenosis. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement specialists will recommend this procedure when the aortic valve narrows. When you have aortic stenosis, your heart has to work harder than usual, as the condition curtails the typical blood flow to the body. It can result in chest pain or shortness of breath.
