India’s First Successful ‘Lung Attack’ Treatment Using Inari Device in India
For the first time in India, I, Dr. C. Raghu, along with a dedicated team of multidisciplinary doctors at Yashoda Hospitals, successfully treated a critical case of pulmonary embolism, also known as a “lung attack,” using the state-of-the-art Inari medical device.
Our patient, Mali Rishikesh, a 20-year-old student from Karimnagar, arrived in critical condition with a blood clot obstructing his pulmonary artery. This blockage, caused by a pulmonary embolism (PE), halted oxygen-depleted blood flow to the lungs and posed a severe threat to his life.
Pulmonary embolism is often compared to a heart attack or stroke because it involves a blood clot—typically originating in the deep veins of the legs—breaking loose and traveling to block a pulmonary artery or its branches.
Together with my expert colleagues—Interventional Pulmonologist Dr. Hari Kishan, Cardio-Thoracic Anaesthetist Dr. Vikram Naidu, and Cardiac Intensivist Dr. Hemalatha—we performed a minimally invasive pulmonary thrombectomy using the advanced Inari device developed in the USA. This innovative procedure successfully removed the blood clot and restored normal blood flow, giving Rishikesh a new lease on life.
